Lee Krasner was a formidable and spirited figure, leading the way among artists even before her marriage to Jackson Pollock made them the modern art world's first celebrity couple. Her cold-water loft served as both a refuge and a site of intense creation and personal struggle, where she engaged in painting, drinking, fighting, and loving. She forcefully opened the door to the art world, asserting herself not merely as a muse but as a fiery artist in her own right.
